About Bloodstock Open Air

Bloodstock began in 2001 as an indoor event at the Derby Assembly Rooms, drawing approximately 700 fans to the inaugural one-day festival. The indoor festival ran from 2001 to 2006, growing to a sell-out capacity of 2,500. The first outdoor Bloodstock Open Air was held in 2005 at Catton Park. The outdoor festival was founded by Paul Raymond Gregory and Vince Brotheridge. After an amicable parting in 2006, Gregory brought his daughters Vicky Hungerford and Rachael Greenfield and son Adam Gregory on board as directors. The family has run the festival independently, turning down corporate investment. After 14 years of operating at a loss, the debts were cleared without corporate involvement. The festival turned its first profit in 2014. The main stages are named after Ronnie James Dio and Sophie Lancaster.
