A chord chart is the fastest way to go from a chord name to an actual sound on your instrument. For guitarists, it shows which fingers go on which frets and strings. For pianists, it shows which keys to press. Both formats communicate the same underlying information: the set of notes that form a specific chord, arranged into a playable shape on a specific instrument.
