- 2014 (August 9 to 10): Kaskade, Bassnectar, Carnage, A$AP Ferg, Waka Flocka Flame, Bro Safari, Orjan Nilsen. The inaugural edition drew over 30,000 attendees and established the festival after a failed 2013 attempt at Port Covington.
- 2015 (August 8 to 9): Tiësto, The Chainsmokers, Zedd, Bassnectar, Dillon Francis, Above & Beyond. The second edition expanded the lineup and drew capacity crowds.
- 2016 (August 6 to 7): Tiësto, Zedd, Kaskade, Pretty Lights, Galantis, RL Grime.
- 2017 (August 5 to 6): Zeds Dead, Pretty Lights, Carnage, Rezz, Excision, Kaskade, Porter Robinson, Madeon, Slander. Weather forced an evacuation during the first day but the festival reopened later that evening.
- 2018 (August 11 to 12): Marshmello, Diplo, Cashmere Cat, Kaskade, Excision, GRiZ, Rezz, Galantis, Illenium. The Preakness horse race left the site in poor condition, requiring a 7-acre sod installation before the festival.
- 2019 (August 10 to 11): Illenium, Excision, Tiësto, KSHMR, NGHTMRE x Slander, San Holo, Alan Walker, Yellow Claw, Big Gigantic. The final pre-pandemic edition featured an enlarged Solar Tent with 60 percent more capacity than 2018.
- 2020 and 2021: Cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- 2022 (August 6 to 7): Tiësto, Zedd, Rezz, Excision, Subtronics, Zeds Dead, Fisher, Chris Lake, RL Grime b2b Baauer, Dom Dolla. The return edition drew 35,000 attendees daily under new Insomniac ownership, with redesigned stages including a Lunar Stage with moon phase panels.
- 2023 (August 12 to 13): Alison Wonderland, Kaskade (redux set), GRiZ, John Summit, Above & Beyond, Big Gigantic, SLANDER, Excision, Louis the Child. The final edition featured four stages (Stellar, Lunar, Satellite, Solar) and over 50 artists. VIP tier 1 tickets were priced at $275.
How Moonrise Festival Worked
Moonrise took place over two days each August at Pimlico Race Course, the historic horse racing track in northwest Baltimore. The venue accommodated up to 30,000 attendees with three main stages and one smaller stage. The festival ran from 11 AM to 11 PM each day, with after-parties hosted at nearby Club Glow venues (Echostage and Soundcheck in Washington, D.C.).
The festival was organized by Steez Promo and Club Glow, with Insomniac Events joining as a partner after acquiring Club Glow in 2019. Insomniac's involvement brought bigger production budgets and access to their roster of touring electronic acts. VIP tickets for the 2023 edition started at $275 per person, a $50 increase from 2022.
Moonrise programmed a wide spectrum of electronic music: dubstep, progressive house, electro house, bass music, and trance. The lineup also included occasional hip-hop acts, following a formula established at the first edition which featured A$AP Ferg and Waka Flocka Flame alongside EDM headliners.
