Admission Process

Undergraduate admission to both Steinhardt and Tisch is handled through NYU's central undergraduate admissions process. Applicants submit the Common Application and indicate their preferred school and program. Tisch Clive Davis Institute applicants may need to submit a creative portfolio. Steinhardt Music Business applicants may need an audition or interview depending on the specific program track.

Graduate admission to Steinhardt's MA in Music Business requires a separate application with a January 15 deadline. Requirements include transcripts, statement of purpose, resume, and letters of recommendation.

Who Should Apply

Steinhardt's BM in Music Business is ideal for students who want to work on the commercial side of the music industry: label operations, publishing, artist management, concert promotion, and music marketing. The program blends music coursework with Stern School of Business classes, making it suited for students who want both musical literacy and business acumen.

Tisch's BFA in Recorded Music is for students who want to be creative entrepreneurs in the music industry: producers, label founders, recording artists, songwriters, and music journalists. The program emphasizes hands-on production training, business plan development, and artistic experimentation. The mandatory study abroad semester adds a global perspective.

Both programs are expensive, but NYU's financial aid for families earning under $100,000 makes them more accessible than the sticker price suggests.
