Deal Structures and How Artists Get Signed
ECM operates differently from nearly every other record label. The deal structures reflect Manfred Eicher's personal philosophy.
No exclusivity contracts. ECM does not use long-term exclusive deals. Each recording is a separate agreement based on mutual confidence and respect. As Eicher has stated: "The best contract is not exclusive. Rather, it's one based on mutual confidence and respect." This means artists can record for other labels between ECM projects.
