ECM Records

ECM Records (Edition of Contemporary Music) is a German independent jazz and classical label founded in 1969 by producer Manfred Eicher in Munich. It has issued more than 1800 albums spanning many idioms, and is one of the most respected jazz labels in the world. ECM is distributed by Universal Music Classics & Jazz in many territories (including France, Japan, and the US), with US distribution through Universal Music Classics Group at 1755 Broadway in New York. The label operates the ECM New Series for classical and contemporary composition.

ECM's catalog is foundational to modern jazz. Its early signings (Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, Jan Garbarek) defined the ECM sound: spacious, atmospheric, and meticulously recorded. The ECM New Series, launched in 1984, brought the label into classical and contemporary composition with recordings of Arvo Part, Steve Reich, and others. The label's 2026 releases include Ralph Alessi's A, Mick Goodrick's In Passing, and Joe Lovano and Julian Lage's Paramount Quartet.
