View EventsZiggo Dome is a 17,000-capacity indoor arena in Amsterdam, opened on June 24, 2012. It is the largest indoor concert arena in the Netherlands, purpose-built for amplified live music. Ziggo Dome is best suited for major touring artists and large-scale productions that require arena-level capacity and production in Amsterdam. In 2025, the venue hosted a record number of events, grossed $82.4 million, and attracted 801,000 attendees across 58 shows, ranking 19th on Billboard's worldwide arena touring chart.
About Ziggo Dome
The arena was built between 2009 and 2012 by architect Benthem Crouwel Architekten. It opened on June 24, 2012, with a performance by Marco Borsato, followed by Pearl Jam, Sting, Madonna, and Lady Gaga. The building is square-shaped, measuring 90 by 90 meters with a height of 30 meters (despite the "Dome" name). The exterior features 840,000 LED lights that can display video and images, earning it the nickname "Las Vegas aan de Amstel" from Dutch newspapers. The floor holds 6,300 people, with the remaining seats in two ringed tiers. The capacity scales from 5,500 for smaller productions to 17,000 for full standing-and-seated configurations. Fully seated arrangements accommodate 12,950 to 14,000 attendees. The venue is named after Dutch cable TV provider Ziggo.
The venue is located in the Bijlmermeer district, next to the Johan Cruijff Arena (football stadium) and approximately 520 meters from AFAS Live (6,000 capacity). The ArenA Poort area forms a concert and sports district with multiple transport options, including Bijlmer ArenA train and metro station (715 meters away) and Strandvliet metro station (580 meters away).
2025 Performance and New Spaces
Ziggo Dome entered the end of 2025 in strong financial and operational shape. According to Pollstar's year-end touring report, the venue ranked 19th globally with $82.4 million in gross revenue and 801,000 attendees across 58 shows. Dutch concert attendance rebounded nationally, with Ziggo Dome driving the growth in indoor accommodations. The venue saw a 27% increase in touring shows compared to 2024.
In November 2025, Ziggo Dome opened Europe's first Vinyl Room, a listening bar designed by Blacksheep architecture firm and based on a concept by Live Nation's Blueprint Studio. The space opened on November 9 during Lady Gaga's concert, with DJ Hardwell playing the first record. The Vinyl Room offers ticket-holders carefully selected vinyl sounds, cocktails, and culinary bites in an intimate atmosphere before and after concerts. Both Business Club Members and general concertgoers can access the space.
Also in 2025, the venue opened a new Spirits Bar in collaboration with Diageo and Bacardi, located on the first tier. The Spirits Bar features stylish lounge areas. Additionally, new digital lockers were installed in public areas, and Comfort Seats on the VIP Boulevard were made available for general admission.
Booking and Event Trends
Ziggo Dome's calendar shows a roughly even split between international and domestic touring. In 2024, the venue hosted 115 events. In 2025, it set a new record for number of events. Looking ahead to 2026, no decrease in shows is expected despite increased stadium touring competition.
Hip-hop has become a permanent fixture on the calendar, both internationally (Drake, Tyler the Creator) and domestically (Jonna Fraser, Frenna). The venue has also seen a growing number of first-time performers who built their audience through TikTok, including Benson Boone and Tate McRae. Latin events increased significantly, with successful shows from J Balvin, Karol G, and Aventura.
Booking requires going through major promoters, primarily Live Nation and Mojo Concerts. The venue does not book artists directly. For ADE 2026 (October 21 to 25, the 30th anniversary edition), Ziggo Dome is hosting multiple flagship events including Black Coffee (three-hour extended set on October 21) and Scooter's "Crushes ADE" closing show on October 25.
Key Benefits for Independent Artists
- Tour routing reference: Even if an independent artist cannot headline Ziggo Dome, understanding its role helps plan tour routing through the Netherlands. Amsterdam is a mandatory stop for European tours.
- Scalable capacity: The venue can scale from 5,500 to 17,000, meaning it can host smaller productions without feeling empty.
- Purpose-built acoustics: The building was designed specifically for amplified live music, providing better sound than multipurpose arenas.
- ArenA Poort district: The concentration of venues (Ziggo Dome, AFAS Live, Johan Cruijff Arena) creates infrastructure for large crowds, including transport, parking, and hospitality.
- ADE platform: During Amsterdam Dance Event, the venue hosts flagship electronic music events that can provide exposure for artists on supporting lineups.
- Domestic talent commitment: The venue actively programs Dutch artists, with names like KANE, Son Mieux, Suzan and Freek, and Antoon regularly appearing on the calendar.
Drawbacks / Things to Consider
The 17,000 capacity is far beyond what most independent artists can fill. Booking requires going through major promoters (Live Nation, Mojo Concerts), meaning artists need label or agency backing. The Bijlmermeer location is far from central Amsterdam, approximately 20 minutes by train from Centraal Station. The venue's corporate naming (Ziggo, a cable TV provider) may conflict with some artists' brand values. The square shape, despite the "Dome" name, can confuse first-time visitors. The LED exterior requires significant energy consumption. The venue competes with AFAS Live (6,000 capacity) and the Johan Cruijff Arena for events in the same district. Dutch tax regulations for large events can affect ticket pricing. The venue's focus on large-scale productions means it is not suitable for intimate or experimental performances. Growth in stadium touring could potentially impact indoor arena bookings in the coming years.
