Processes
Nomination Process
Winners are determined based on sales and streaming performance data for recordings by Spanish artists released during the eligibility year. The awards reflect the musical tastes of Spanish audiences who purchased or streamed the winning albums and songs. International and Latin categories are open to non-Spanish artists.
Voting Process
The Odeón Awards combine public voting on the official website with criteria from the organizing committee. The Premios Objetivo categories are determined purely by consumption data (each listen, each view, each album purchased) up to the day of the gala.
The Premios Odeón are Spain's premier music awards, created in 2020 by AGEDI (the Spanish Intellectual Rights Management Association) to recognize the most commercially successful recordings by Spanish artists. Winners are determined by sales and streaming performance data combined with public voting. The 7th edition, announced on March 23, 2026, presented 27 awards across genre categories including pop, urban, rock, alternative, flamenco, Latin, and international.
How the Premios Odeón Work
The awards are divided into two parts: the Odeón Awards and the Premios Objetivo.
-
Odeón Awards: These are chosen through a combination of public votes on the official website and criteria from the organizing committee at AGEDI. Categories include Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Music Video of the Year, and Tour of the Year, plus genre-specific awards for pop, urban, rock, alternative, and flamenco.
-
Premios Objetivo: These are determined purely by consumption data. Every listen, every view, and every album purchased counts toward the final tally up to the day of the gala. This data-driven approach means the awards directly reflect what Spanish audiences actually consumed.
-
Genre Categories: Each genre (pop, urban, rock, alternative, flamenco, Latin, international) has three awards: Best Album, Best Song, and New Artist. The international and Latin categories are open to non-Spanish artists.
-
Honor Award: Each edition includes an Honor Award recognizing an artist whose career has marked a milestone in Spanish musical history.
The award statuettes are designed by Suso33, a renowned urban artist who has created the sculptures for all editions. The 2026 edition was produced across 11 record companies, with two categories (Best Pop Song and Best Rock Song) awarded ex aequo to two winners each.
Real-World Example: The 7th Edition (2026)
The 2026 Premios Odeón, announced on March 23, 2026, recognized recordings released in 2025. Rosalía won Album of the Year for "LUX" (Sony Music), cementing her status as Spain's biggest global music export. Aitana dominated the pop categories, winning Best Pop Album for "Cuarto Azul" and sharing Best Pop Song with Rosalía for "Superestrella" and "La Perla" respectively.
Joaquín Sabina received the Tour of the Year award for his farewell tour "Hola y Adiós," which included 71 concerts across both sides of the Atlantic and sold more than 700,000 tickets. JC Reyes won Music Video of the Year for "Celosa" and Best Urban Album for "Nacer de Nuevo."
In rock, Leiva won Best Rock Album for "Gigante" and shared Best Rock Song with Fito y Fitipaldis. Guitarricadelafuente took Best Alternative Album for "Spanish Leather." In the international categories, Taylor Swift won Best International Album for "The Life of a Showgirl," while Rosé and Bruno Mars won Best International Song for "APT." Damiano David was named International New Artist for his solo work outside Maneskin.
Why It Matters for Independent Artists
The Premios Odeón are primarily data-driven. The Premios Objetivo categories are determined by actual consumption: streams, purchases, and views. This means independent Spanish artists who build genuine audience engagement can compete without label lobbying or industry connections.
The New Artist categories in each genre (pop, urban, rock, alternative, flamenco, Latin) specifically target emerging talent. Artists like Chiara Oliver (Pop New Artist 2026) and Ultraligera (Rock New Artist 2026) were recognized early in their careers. The awards also cover a wide range of genres including flamenco and alternative, giving independent artists in niche genres a platform.
