Full Sail University is a private for-profit university in Winter Park, Florida, founded in 1979 as an audio recording workshop. It specializes in entertainment media and technology education, offering accelerated bachelor's degrees in music production, recording arts, audio production, music business, and live event production through both campus and online formats.

Programs and Degrees

Full Sail offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Music Production, Recording Arts, Audio Production (online), Music Business, and Live Event Production. The school also offers a Master of Science in Entertainment Business.

Unlike traditional universities, Full Sail runs on an accelerated schedule. Campus bachelor's programs typically take 20 to 29 months to complete instead of the standard four years. Classes start monthly, so there are no traditional application deadlines. Students can apply anytime and begin on the date that works best for them.

Each program includes Full Sail's Project LaunchBox, a technology package with a laptop computer and media creation software customized to the degree program. Tuition covers all costs including textbooks, manuals, media, production materials, lab fees, and technology fees.

The Music Production bachelor's program covers digital audio principles, workstation technology, audio engineering techniques, and advanced mixing. The Recording Arts program focuses on studio recording, post-production, and live sound. The Music Business program covers music industry structures, contracts, publishing, and artist management.

Admissions and Tuition

Full Sail requires a high school diploma or equivalent for admission. The school is nationally accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC), not regionally accredited. This means credits may not transfer to regionally accredited institutions.

  • Music Production: $86,000 total
  • Recording Arts: $86,000 total

Real-World Example

A student enrolling in the campus Music Production bachelor's program in March 2026 pays $86,000 total. The program takes approximately 29 months to complete. The student receives a Project LaunchBox laptop with Pro Tools, Logic Pro, and other production software included. After graduation, the student has a portfolio of production projects and can pursue roles as a music producer, audio engineer, or post-production specialist. Entry-level audio engineering positions in recording studios typically pay $35,000 to $50,000 per year, while freelance music producers can earn $25 to $100 per hour depending on experience and client base.

Why It Matters for Independent Artists

Full Sail is not a traditional conservatory. It does not offer instrumental performance degrees or classical music training. What it does offer is practical, industry-focused education in recording, production, and music business. If you are an independent artist who wants to produce your own music, run your own studio, or manage your own business affairs, Full Sail provides those specific skills.

The accelerated format means you can graduate and start working in under three years. The monthly start dates give you flexibility to begin when it fits your schedule. The online programs make it possible to study from anywhere while continuing to build your music career.

The lack of regional accreditation is a consideration if you plan to transfer credits or pursue graduate study at a regionally accredited university. Research your long-term goals before enrolling.
