Matador Records

Matador Records is an American independent label founded in 1989 by Chris Lombardi in New York, now 50% owned by Beggars Group. It built the careers of Pavement, Liz Phair, and Cat Power in the 1990s, and its modern roster includes Queens of the Stone Age, Interpol, and Spoon. Matador focuses on indie rock, alternative, and post-punk, with an office in New York and an additional office in Austin, Texas.

Songs for the Deaf (2002) featured Dave Grohl on drums and reached number 17 on the Billboard 200. ...Like Clockwork (2013) debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, the band's first album to do so. In Times New Roman... (2023) was their most recent Matador release.
• Interpol (active): Signed to Matador in the early 2000s. Turn On the Bright Lights (2002) is considered a post-punk revival classic. Antics (2004) reached number 15 on the Billboard 200. The band's music video for "Evil" (2004), directed by Charlie White, features an animatronic puppet and has over 40 million views on YouTube.
• Spoon (active): Signed to Matador for Hot Thoughts (2017), which debuted at number 16 on the Billboard 200. Spoon also released Lucifer on the Sofa (2022) on Matador. The band was previously on Merge Records for most of their career.
• Snail Mail (active): Lindsey Jordan signed to Matador as a teenager. Lush (2018) was her Matador debut, released when she was 19. Ricochet (March 2025) is her third album, co-produced with Aron Kobayashi Ritch of Momma. The lead single "Tractor Beam" debuted on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
• This Is Lorelei (active): Nate Amos signed to Matador in 2025. The Singer in My Band is his first album for the label, released September 11, 2025. A Super Deluxe edition of his breakout LP Box For Buddy, Box For Star features covers from Hayley Williams, Waxahatchee, MJ Lenderman, Jeff Tweedy, and Snail Mail.
• Zoh Amba (active): Signed to Matador in 2025. Eyes Full is their first album for the label. Amba is recognized as a saxophonist and composer, and the Matador release follows a new path as a guitarist and songwriter drawing on their childhood in Kingsport, Tennessee.
